I've been given 2 years max if I don't stop drinking so I have been paying a Counsellor for help.....I can go months without a drink then BOOM i'm back on it so I needed to know why ?
Nice enough bloke and answered all his questions honestly but I don't feel that I'm getting anywhere so let's hope I stay off it.
Ted, I would imagine trying to figure out why might not be the important thing.

I remember a while back you were begging people to stop smoking and rightly so as your motives were genuine.

Sorry to hear about your mum I also had ascites which went when I gave up drinking I was also bringing up blood as in Varices I'm on Lactulose to remove toxins and ammonia.
Yes I must stay off it.

My Missus is a big proponent of this and has been involved with Al Anon (which is a support group for people who have been affected by Alcoholic behaviour) for about ten years.
Personally, I'd rather my liver slowly fail than visit such a group but there are so many success stories it has to work on some level.

Very sorry to hear that Zammo, my sister in law lives in Spain has hepatitis C, not sure how it was contracted which affects the liver I believe.
i might be out of place saying it, but I’m not sure the medical profession are so sympathetic towards inflicted diseases. My fathers was also diagnosed with smoking related terminal lung cancer a few weeks ago and they say he is too old and weak for treatment.

I have liver damage, not through drink but contaminated blood. You have a choice, make the right one

Ted I wish you the best with it. Mum passed of cirrhosis 8 months ago. Some say it is hereditary? My brother and I like a drink.
As you say it was not pleasant and something not easy to talk about, but if it helps anyone in anyway here then it’s worth sharing. Suffice to say I didn’t know any of this.
They had to drain ascites as her liver was no longer functioning and provide laxatives as the liver was no longer removing toxins primarily ammonia which if not removed goes to all organs once in bloodstream, the brain causing dementia, blindness, coma. Ended up wearing a nappy soiled with nurses changing her three times per day, loss of dignity. Unfortunately all toxins are not removed and muscle weakness set in became bedridden and unable to eat solids so was drinking vitamin drinks and water from a straw, eventually was unable to swallow medications, eat or drink.

Normally down a quick pint of water overbyyer but it's ridiculous really as when I was first diagnosed with Cirrhosis I gave up for 10 months then for some reason bought some beers and wallop !! I've lost 3 stone and know I'm ill so i'll just have to behave as Cirrhosis can be a shitty death !! Plus it's not fair on my family.

Ted - have they said you can switch to alcohol free instead? One of the biggest hurdles is finding something you can drink in sufficient quantities and taste to make it a viable substitute.
I stopped seven years ago but struggled with finding something I could drink in bulk - I'd do 8 or 9 pints when out at football and switching to soft drinks was awful in those quantities. The choice of alcohol free (typically 0.05% which is virtually zero) is a lot better than you think and is easily drinkable in quantity.
Have a think about it and maybe give it ago.

Remember private Counsellors provide sessions as a business its in their interests to keep you coming back. They create co-dependence. They become the substance of abuse.
If they were paid on a performance basis ie substance free clients most of the cunts would be back to their day job.
So tell me about your parents......

Thanks for taking the time one and all. I do need help but I'm an atheist.
I'm good at hoodwinking people into believing I only drink half as much as I do. Maybe I can hoodwink people into pretending I believe in an Higher Being or God.
If God can cure me why the fuck did he/she him/her let me get into this fucking state in the first place?
